While Rivera was visiting the Soviet Union in 1927-8, the artist took to sketching everyday life scenes such as this procession of people entering a building during a harsh winter day. Rivera documented much of what he saw in Russia in this manner, including farmers at work, political parades, peasant children in costume, and other typical scenes. La Procesión I is located in the collection of the Frida Kahlo Museum in Mexico City.
