Torreón is a Mexican town in Coahuila state, on the Texas border. This watercolor represents Mexican laborers and their families returning to Mexico from the United States after being deported by President Hoover in the early years of the Great Depression. Deportees included children born to Mexican workers residing in the U.S. Clad in their American clothes, the refugees seem out of place in their Mexican homeland.
