Alfredo Castañeda, Our Sacrifice
Our Sacrifice

Nuestro Yo, y Mi Nosotros

Espejo presente en todas las paredes,
Mi Nosotros saluda repetido.
Escribe y canta. Trabaja y crea.
Gozando ilusionado lo que Naturaleza le concede
Sufre también,
Enferma y muere.

Con la mano en el pecho
Desde el fuego perene vigilando
En silencio nos habla Nuestro Yo.
Su corazón compartido marca el ritmo
Del despertar y del florecimiento,
Esperando amoroso el día Domingo.

Alfredo Castañeda, 1999

Our Me, and My We

Mirror present on all walls,
My We greets repeatedly.
Writes and sings. Works and creates.
Enjoys with fascination what Nature bestows
Suffers also,
Falls ill and dies.

With hand on chest
Keeping vigil from the perennial fire
In silence speaks Our Me.
Its heart divided marking the rhythm
Of the awakening and the flowering,
Awaiting with love the Lord’s Day.

Alfredo Castañeda, Our Forgiveness
Our Forgiveness

In 1974 I made my first visit to the Galería de Arte Mexicano where Inés Amor was there to welcome me. She showed me the work of several Mexican artists, among whom Alfredo Castañeda stands out in my memory. In 1982, when I founded my own gallery, I hoped I would be able to show the work of Castañeda. I enlisted the assistance of my friends and associates at GAM, Alejandra Yturbe and Mariana Perez-Amor (Inés’s daughter),and in 1983 Alfredo Castañeda had his first one-man show in New York, Private Heavens.

Our mutual friendship and collaboration has continued to this day and it is with the greatest love that Mary-Anne Martin/Fine Art welcomes Alfredo Castañeda in celebrating the 30th anniversary of his first exhibition in Mexico. We are fortunate to be together: Alfredo, his wife Hortensia, Alejandra and Mariana. We will miss Inés Amor, but know that her spirit is with us.
