We are pleased to announce that Mary-Anne Martin/Fine Art will be showing the work of Panamanian artist Isabel de Obaldía. We have followed her work since the eighties and after years of correspondence the artist has agreed to create for us an exhibition of her extraordinary sculptures in glass. Based on pre-Columbian models, the sculptures have a vital power which comes in part from her manipulation of this unusual material, which is icy and hard, translucent and colorful. The figures which she creates have an ancient presence, yet could only have been created with modern technology. A recent show of these sculptures at Elite Fine Art in Coral Gables sold out completely. We will be exhibiting a work at Art Miami in January and another at The Art Show in New York in February. Her first exhibition at mam/fa is planned for the fall of 1997. |
