| We
have a few staff changes to report at mam/fa as the new year begins. Matthew
Rembe is now Director of the gallery. He oversees all exhibitions both at home and
on the road. As we do several art fairs each year, this responsibility falls squarely on
Matthews shoulders. Matthew also handles sales of artwork, concentrating
particularly on new collectors.
Matthew Rembe and Sofia Lacayo Sofia Lacayo has recently joined the gallery as cataloguer and administrator. Sofia graduated from Duke University in 1995, where she majored in Art History. As a senior her proposal to do a show of contemporary art from Nicaragua won her the student curatorship of an exhibition at the Duke Museum of Art. The show, Patria: Contemporary Nicaraguan Painting, proved so successful that funds were raised to travel it to Managua. After college Sofia interned at the Whitney Museum of Art in New York and then went to work in advertising as an account executive for Latin America at J. Walter Thompson in New York. We were able to lure Sofia away from advertising and back to art by promising her a stimulating life surrounded by great art and fabulous co-workers. So far she has expressed no regrets. Lynn Harrison Bump designs all our catalogues, maintains our website, continues to rescue us every time we cant work our computers (fairly often) and still finds time to consult for other galleries, design their programs and rescue them whenever they cant work their computers. His company, artPRO Computer Systems, still does private tutoring by the hour for the computer impaired. Dina Mitrani has left us to head the photography division of Throckmorton Fine Art Inc., in New York. We miss her but know that she is working in a field she loves. |
